Antioxidant testing

I attempted to test my cream for its antioxidant potential. So I tried a basic FRAP test (The ferric reducing antioxidant power). Although it's an assay  I tried a qualitative test to detect if the cream has any antioxidant activity.
I always got sea green color not the Prussian blue. So I wanted to know if sea green color indicates any antioxidant activity.

Sorry if all this sounds too amateurish

It would be better to test pure ingredients rather than a cream. Lipids and emulsifiers can interfere with the assay.
At least use positive and negative controls = a cream without added antioxidants/herbal extracts and one where you add a fair amount of a known working antioxidant. This would also give you the answer to your Q.
  • Thank you so much. I never thought of this.
